Caravan Racing
One of the fun idea's which runs and runs is Caravan racing. It is not
very difficult to make your own 1/12 sized caravan to tow round behind a Ministox,
and if you don't face building your van from scratch you can buy moulded
Caravan bodys on ebay, and a chassis to mount it on, which takes a V12 rear pod (without
motor) to provide the wheel and axle mountings.
To show how a simple caravan chassis can be made, here are some pictures
of the caravan I made in a couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon.
The caravan chassis is made from a 40mm strip of aluminion, and an old
chassis plate cut down to fit the width of the van, V12 front suspension
is mounted completely unaltered.
track rods are made from bent coathanger, and
fixed with a large washer - allowing wheel alignment to be adjusted and
then locked down
A simple toe hook can be made out of more coathanger, and bolted to the rear
body mounting plate of the V12 - the Z bend is to allow the body
to be fitted and removed with this in place.
ABS bodyshell mounted on caravan chassis - just waiting for a matching paint scheme to race.
Finally painted to match the Capri tow car.
Of course, you don't have to stick to a simple caravan, some examples of trailors/caravans used at one of our fun nights are below !
